Welcome to digital, Channel Islanders!
Today saw the switchover to Digital and HD for the Channel Islands - the Fremont Transmitter and relays completed the changeover by 15:30. To-date this was and is the only area to switchover in one stage and as we understand the first time for digital transmissions on the Islands. Up until now they have been watching analogue transmissions, so today is a special day for them.
For those who live on the Channel Islands, the lineup of Freeview channels is different than other areas in the UK. Today the Islanders also saw their channels increase from 4 to about 17 TV stations including the HD channels. The day started with the main transmitter switching over about 6.00am. Throughout the day the rest of the relays were switched over

4 November 2010

Today a new channel appeared on Freeview, called Adult Filth - no prizes as to what category this falls in - ADULT!
There are now fifteen adult channels on freeview, including the section markers. If these were removed, perhaps it would make room for the increased bandwidth, needed for the higher bitrate required to improve the quality of the HD channels. Obviously, the old saying applies: "where there's muck ('filth') there's money" - TV Digital Info
3 November 2010

BBC1 HD Launches tonight at 7.00pm. This new channel been added to the BBC's portfolio and to the HD line-up on Freeview, Freesat, Sky and Virgin Media. To get this new channel you will need to rescan your digital box as BBC1 HD will occupy the Ch50 spot and BBC HD will move to Ch54
This new channel will air the same programmes as found on BBC's standard BBC1 channel, but in glorious HD. For programmes that were not shot in native HD, these will be up-scaled. The BBC says that by the end of 2011 all its media will be native HD.
It is a shame the BBC took the decision a while back to reduce the bitrate, we could be looking at a far better quality picture - TV Digital Info
27 October 2010
