If you are after channels like Sky1, Sky Movies, Sky Sports, then you have no alternative other than a Sky Box.
In the UK Sky has been around for several years now and has an impressive list of channels to offer under different packages. They have the most stunning selection of HD channels, including Sky1, Movies, History, Disney, Sport, ITV, BBC, Si-Fi to mention just a few.
Two Digital Boxes are offered, standard and 1TB version and now and includes the dish and installation. In brief the design your own package has three basic options now:
- Sky+box - Sky box (Free) and free installation and setup† *
- Sky+HD box only - Sky box (Free), installation and setup also Free *
- Sky+HD box and HD pack - Sky box (Free) installation and setup (free) * #
- Sky Multiroom - additional £10.25 per month plus one of above combinations
- Sky+HD 1TB - Sky box from £49 (existing customers) £149 (new customers) and free installation and setup. Additional £10.25 per month for HD pack ø
- Sky 3D - no extra charge you need Sky World HD (£55) to qualify 3D

Sky+ Box only
You have to select at least one "Entertainment" package at £20 per month or "Entertainment Extra" at (£25). (see below for additional information about the box) †

Sky+HD Box only

Sky+HD Box & HD Pack
As the Sky+ HD Box only above plus the ability to receive and watch High Definition broadcasts. Sky has an impressive 37 HD channels - anything from blockbuster movies to amazing nature programmes. (see below for additional information about the box) †

Total: FREE
- On-going: Monthly fee £20 minimum - the cost of one Entertainment pack, plus £10.25 monthly fee for HD Pack
- Total: £30.25 monthly
Sky Multiroom
Sky Multiroom enables you to expand on your existing subscription package by adding a sky box in additional rooms. Funnily enough there is a choice of boxes available for this add-on to your sky package.

Freesat from Sky
A lot of the channels on sky are from the wide selection of Free-to-Air. Sky also provide a little publicised service where you can get these with no monthly subscription called freesat (not the same as Freesat mentioned above), this is their version. However you do have to buy the Set-Top boxes (HD version) which is £175.00 and includes installation.
Freesat from Sky
For £175.00 you get 240 high quality digital TV channels, 85 Radio Station, and 6 FREE HD channels*. This is four times those on offer from Freeview. You get the regular BBC and ITV & Five channels. Now it includes a HD Box, but it dosen't record.
*Luxury Life HD, Channel 4 HD, BBC HD, BBC One HD, ITV1 HD and Channel 5 HD are available without subscription. Channel 4 HD and Channel 5 require a viewing card. ITV1 HD is only available in England and Wales.
Broadband
You can also bundle in Sky Broadband from free upwards per month, you can also add Sky Talk unlimited to your package.
